What about domain names?
We can register a domain name (www.yourname.com) for you. The price for .com .org .net or .ca domain names is $20/year.
If you have a domain name already, or prefer to register it yourself, that's no problem at all.
How Do I Pay? Do I need a credit card?
Unlike most hosting companies, we do not require a credit card. Once your account is set up we will give you an invoice that you can pay a number of ways. You can pay cash to your local contact, online via credit card, paypal or online banking, or if you
live in Victoria, you can even make payments at Ditch Records. On most of our plans we like to collect payments
1 year at a time. If this is a problem let us know and we can work out a custom payment scheme.
Is there a charge to upgrade my plan if I find I need more?
At any time if you need more space, bandwidth or features, we can upgrade your plan at no charge.
How do I upload / update my web site?
Once your account is set up we will email you a username and password that will enable you to transfer
files to your site using an Ftp Client.
We also offer a full range of
web automation services that will
allow you to update your existing website easily through your web browser from any computer without any technical skills at all.
What happens if I exceed my monthly tranfer limit?
If you exceed your monthly transfer quota, the server monitor will send us both an email. I will then
talk to you about upgrading to a more appropriate plan. Your site will never by suspended and we won't charge
you a penalty per gigabyte-over-your-quota as most hosting companies do. There will be no surprises.
Where is your server located and how is it connected to the internet?
Our server is physically located in a hosting centre in Montreal with a 10MBps connection on a big internet backbone.
It is monitored 24/7 by a technical support team.
What about help / support?
If you have any problem with your website you can call me, Nev (our server admin and techie) at any time.
I'm available pretty much 24/7 via my cell and email. Additionally we've got our team of tech's at the hosting centre where the server
is located who are available at all times. Also, we have a Help system to help you with some common tasks/problems.
Backups?
Our entire server is backed up nightly to our local back-up server in our office in Victoria. Our most important databases are backed up in real-time.
What to you need from me to get my site set up?
Basically, the only two things we need to know are what plan you think you'd like (contact us if you need help deciding)
and what domain name you'd like to use. We can register your domain for you ($20 per year.)
Can I transfer my site from an existing host?
Yes, we can move your site over from wherever it may currently be hosted. If you can provide us with your ftp login for your old site we can move it for you.
Also, if you already have a domain name you'd like to keep we will need to update your domain settings. To do that
If you can let us know where you registered your domain, and give us the login info and password
to update it's settings we can take care of it for you. Or, you can change the settings yourself or have someone else update them for you.
All you need to do is change the dns servers for your domain to: ns1.scenepages.com and ns2.scenepages.com
We're also skilled in moving databases, messageboards etc, so we can help with things like that. Contact us for details.
